Our rehoming process

Our rehoming process is carefully tailored to each applicant, so please allow plenty of time.

Cats are rehomed all over the state, but you’ll need to be able to collect the cat from one of our foster carers or our shelter. Our rehoming process starts by filling out our pre-adoption questionnaire online.  A National Police Clearance follows and then a home check by one of our Volunteers.

If you live too far away for a home visit you’ll need to provide a letter of recommendation from a vet or rescue centre in your area. In some cases we may request you ask a local rescue centre to carry out a home visit. Please note, this doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to rehome a cat from us.

HAART has cats of all ages, colours, shapes and sizes, each with its different personality and temperament.  Each dog is assessed to find out what it’s like and what sort of home, lifestyle and environment would best suit it.

One cat might be relaxed about being in a house with a dog, whereas another would not enjoy the experience. One could be best suited to a home with kids, another to live out its life in peace with a retired couple. Each animal is carefully matched at the pre-adoption stage with the most suitable owner.

How much does it cost?

Our rehoming fee is $200 for a cat and $220 for a kitten. Included in this cost are the following:

  • Microchipping
  • Initial vaccinations
  • Flea and Worming treatment
  • Desexing

In many cases your animal will be neutered, however some younger cats will be adopted out on Kitten Contracts.  This means that you will need to take your cat to a HAART approved vet for sterilisation at an appropriate age and weight.

We strongly suggest that you take out pet insurance for your animal.  A list of insurance companies are listed here.

ID and guidelines

Please supply us with:

  • Identification with your name and address.
  • Written permission from your rental agency, or landlord if you do not own your home

Note you have to be 18 years old or over to rehome a HAART cat.

Please remember:

  • We cannot guarantee any animal seen on the website will be suitable for a prospective owner
  • We cannot guarantee any animal seen on this website will be available at the time you’re ready to adopt
  • Although each animal has a full behaviour and temperament assessment while in HAART’s care we cannot accept responsibility for its temperament once it has been rehomed

We will usually visit your home prior to you adopting a cat, this will be arranged at the time of successful application.
